A step ahead in curbing gender bias was suggested by our external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj when she stated that men should take up home science to hone their culinary and household management skills, whereas women should take up physical education, especially martial arts. The statement was made by her on Thursday at the Group of Minister (GoM) meeting held to review the national policy for women.
The policy is being revised for the first time in 16 years and that is a welcome change for all. And what better than a superwoman suggesting gold herself. One of the most successful and respected woman politician of our country, Sushma Swaraj amazingly juggles between her political life, her home, and her children.
The changed policy will address current and emerging challenges that women put up with, involving health, education and employment issues. This step will help a great deal in changing the gender-based stereotypes regarding women, and lessen their workload significantly with the help of their male counterparts, thus ensuring a better life for them.
Urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu, also present at the meeting, recommended that women starting a business should be given higher loans from banks.
And while we are heartened out at Sushma Swaraj’s recommendation, we also take a moment to applaud her husband Governor Swaraj Kaushal for taking a humorous dig at it. This is what he tweeted.
………..bad times ahead. https://t.co/K33Y8Nitof
