Basically if you are an Indian and that too a girl, I bet there are so many restrictions on you and different people tell you how to live your life. So here are the restrictions every Indian woman faces:
1. “Shhhh! You should talk politely, you’re a girl.”
Like, really! I know you are told to talk slowly or shut up if you’re a girl. So, if someone tells you to shut up or calm down your voice – Go near their ear and shout that You’re not going to lower your voice. Because girl, you can speak as loudly as you can because “your vocal chords, your choice”
2. “Oh god! You’re a girl you shouldn’t abuse.”
Oh well, well! Obviously if you’re a girl you’re supposed to talk in a very sophisticated, calm and polite way. If someone tells you so, then just go to them and tell them to mind their own fu**ing business.
3. “You should learn to cook, you’re a girl.”
No offence, if you’re a girl you’re told to cook since you’re a kid. You’re told how to be a maid and cook for your family. Girl, whoever tells this to you, don’t say anything to them. Just hire them as your cook while you’re living your dream life.
4. “You shouldn’t go out home alone, that too late at the evening.”
Huh! Don’t step out of the house late if you’re a girl, rule no. 102637. Life is made to break the rules. So just do it. Party late at night, do night shift work and the hell you want to.
5. “You shouldn’t dress like that, it exposes you off too much.”
Again, if you’re a girl you shouldn’t dress such that it exposes you off much because it’s a free invitation to rape, molest and eve tease. Ain’t it? Damn! The lady in Burqa was stared at too.
So you know it has nothing to do with your clothes, time, words or voice. But society is never going to change. Why don’t you? At least for yourself.
