Remember the days and nights when you were not able to sleep properly, the time when watching the news was important because each new day brought a new thing on your platter by the Modi led BJP government. Some major decisions by Modi government have had a very strong impact on the lifestyle of citizens of India as well as our stand in the world podium.
Here are some of the major decisions by Modi Government in the past years which will have a long-lasting impact.
Modi led BJP came with it in August 2014 with an aim to provide the Indian citizens’ bank accounts where the minimum balance can be zero. 1.5 crore bank accounts were opened on the first day of the scheme but with demonetization coming in the frame, this yojana got a major push.
Later it resulted in the closing of most of the bank accounts due to the lack of adequate banking services.
Ask people around you “What happened on 8th November 2016 at 8:00 p.m.?” Trust me, 99% will know the answer. The news which was shocking for the whole nation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the devaluation of ₹500 and ₹1000 notes. The main motive behind this decision was to curb the black money, and the effect could be very well seen. The banks were flooded with cash and people were purchasing things in large quantities to get rid of the old notes.
Remember the long queues outside the banks and ATM’s. ( I remember the controversies on them too :p)
With this came the concept of ‘Digital India’.
Digital India and Smart Cities
Digital India is a programme for digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Also, a new mobile application called BHIM was launched on December 31, 2016.
On the other hand, Smart Cities Mision will develop 100 cities across the country. making them citizen friendly and sustainable. The Mission has received Rs.98 crore funding.
Counted as one of the biggest achievements by Modi government Goods and Services Tax (or Good and Simple Tax) was passed in the year 2017. Due to lack of awareness, the effects were a bit shaky in the beginning.
The producers and manufacturers suffered a loss in the profit rates. Also, the rage was over the increased prices of some of the goods. As this bill was long due in the Parliament from the UPA regime, it came as BJP’s big move because of the reason that it was being opposed by them previously in the UPA regime.
The heat between Pakistan and India is still not reduced (Will it ever be?) but the Indian Army made an unprecedented move on the cross-border terrorist organizations by conducting a surgical strike in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. It was an appreciated move by the government as it brought huge loss to the other side.
Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan
For many people, this abhiyaan was only made to click photos and show off but the major aim was to eliminate open defecation in India by 2019. The sanitary and cleanliness condition of India has improved a bit but the fact that the government and the society became less enthusiastic at last made this plan a namesake one. Some people still follow this abhiyaan very seriously and are helping in making India clean.
Make In India
With the motive of encouraging multi-national and national companies to manufacture their product in India, on September 24, 2014, the idea of Make In India came into existence. This not only helped India grow but also helped in making it a global manufacturing hub.
Free LPG connection to poor
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched on May 1, 2016. It provided 5 crores free LPG connections to poor families and support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. Rs. 8000 crore was allocated for the implementation of the scheme. The connections were issued in the name of women of the households ensuring women empowerment in rural India.
As the manufacturers of cylinders, gas stoves, regulators, and gas hose were domestic it provided a great boost to the ‘Make in India’ campaign.
For a flight journey of 1 hour, a maximum airfare of Rs 2500 was fixed. This Yojana’s main aim was to make air travel affordable for the common man. It is a key component of the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP), released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on 15th June 2016.
Startup India Action Plan
Launched on January 16, 2016, the main aim of this plan is to nurture innovation and startups in India. The government launched the I-MADE program to help Indian entrepreneurs build 1 million mobile app start-ups. The MUDRA Banks scheme (Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana) was an initiative aimed at providing micro-finance, low-interest rate loans to entrepreneurs from low socioeconomic backgrounds. ₹200 billion has been allocated for this scheme.
Its three pillars are ‘Simplification and Handholding’, ‘Funding Support and Incentives’ and ‘Industry-Academia Partnership and Incubation’.
PM Modi said -“I see startups, technology and innovations as exciting and effective instruments for India’s transformation”.
A deal with Narendra Modi’s Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe was finalized, for a bullet train. Running between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the project will cost around Rs. 1 lakh crore. It will be India’s first high-speed rail line. It is scheduled to leave for its first run on August 15, 2022.
We need to wait until 2019 to see whether these major decisions by Modi government will help him rule the nation for 5 more years or will it take away from them the control over the nation. Modi has always been that person who is not scared to take big decisions and despite the criticism he has faced, we cannot deny the fact that he has helped India grow for better. (He is a favourite personality on social media though 😉 )
Let’s all believe in the government of India and support and trust Modi with his decisions because he is not only a man of words but indeed a man of action too. (This is my Mann Ki Baat)
