Call her Charu, Kusum or Pihu, she aces her title as ‘The Punchnama Girl‘. Living her life just like all other girls, Ishita Raj Sharma has made her achievements big, yet her lifestyle so grounded. (And she refuses to be the one like Kusum- the managing girlfriend in the sequel of Pyaar ka Punchnama).

We had a chat with Ishita Raj Sharma and here are some excerpts from the interview:

1. How do you feel to be known as the “Punchanama girl?”

“It feels great! Punchnama is a very big achievement. It was loved by everyone, especially youth, they connected with it. I think even elders who don’t belong to the same age group loved it. It is always great to be associated with a movie which has a huge expectation.”

2. What attracted you to begin a career as an actor?

“I started off very good. ‘Mujhe bachpan se actor banna tha.’ The only thing I understood was-‘I want to act because films always fascinated me.’ But then I stopped telling myself because I was not from a film family. So, mujhe pta nahi tha, how to do films. But God had some thoughts for me and he paved a path that got me into films. For time being, I thought I’ll join my dad for business (laughs).

3. Apart from Kartik Aaryan and Nushrat Bharucha, you are the only one re-casted in Pyaar Ka Punchanama’s sequel. How did you first react knowing about it?

I did know Kartik, Sunny and Nushrat and it felt like a family, comfortable. It was more like a fun film because I know all the people. I don’t have to adjust myself and merged into the group so well. I would love to do more movies with them. Since I just started off with them and it now feels more like a family. I am more than happy and if I get a chance to work again, I would happily say yes.”

4. What’s your personal style?

“Personal style is something like it should make you look good at the same time comfortable. I wear skirts and when I feel like taking it more casual I go for shorts. It is something like – whatever I feel like wearing. At the same time, it also depends where are you going. If I go to a party, I wear dress accordingly that fits the space I am in.”

5. Who are you like- Charu, Kusum or Pihu?

I’m none of them. I’m a very simple girl like all of us are. Compassionate, caring and loving. I adore my family and friends and I love the idea of being in love. If I do find love in someone, I would devote my time and energy to it and lead a happy yet simple life.

The roles I played showed sort of girls that do appear in this world. I’m not at all like Charu, if I’m in love with something I would not look for avenues for it. I’m not like Kusum, since she was very much into advocating money and I’m really nowhere like her. In Pihu, I can somewhere relate myself. Like, if I’m in love and forced to break up I would at least fight to get him back.”

6. One role you badly wanted/wished to do?

“There are so many roles you want to do. Like the one in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Sanjay Leela Bhansali shows actresses mujhe wo idea bahaut pasand hai. He make actresses look so very beautiful that every girl dreams to be one (pauses). And then I wanted to play Simran of DDLJ or Chandini. I love Sridevi ji’s work. The way she used to be so effortless yet so funny. Beautiful! I loved her in Khuda Gawah.”

7. If not actor what would you be?

I would be a fashion designer, shoe designer or a jewellery designer.
