Depressed Spouse

As everyone says, “first learn to love yourself before loving anyone else”. Well! It’s an easy phrase to quote, but hard to apply and terrible enough when you lead to depression. Your partner might be depressed due to several reasons and it’s time for you to help your depressed spouse.

So here are some things one should remember while living with depressed spouse:

1. Frustrate, but never abandon your spouse

We are humans and all these different natures are a part of our life. Dealing with a person going through depression may frustrate you, but to abandon them is not a good choice. Often people let depressed ones go from their life as they are unable to tackle them. They need your support and love, don’t leave your partner.

2. Depression is not someone’s choice

Depression is a state where a person feels unwanted and miserable to another extent. We consider that the person going through depression must be needing alone time to get healed, but that’s not true. Your life parhas have already drowned themselves in the ocean of darkness and it is not their choice, but the fact is that they are trying hard to deal with it. You only need to give them your time, attention and care. Make their soul realize that soon depression will turn away in peace.

3. They are not weak

Depression is a part of life which surely has an end. A temporary phase, which may hit hard for that particular time period, but it takes courage and support from loved ones to tap the inner strength which one can carry into the heart. It makes one stronger when they bounce back into a depression free life.

4. Bit sensitive nature

There will be people who will look down upon them, some who will abandon them, and then others who will nurture them. Such mix reactions from surroundings often make them a permanent sufferer. They usually find comfort and peace in movies and music they can relate to, as it helps them to nurture their emotions they are lacking behind.

5. Mood swings are a major setback

One moment they will be like a happy soul, smiling and dancing with moments, but other minutes a trigger shot a bullet and turns them into a disrupted emotional person that ends up shutting everything. While the mood swings might confuse you, it is worse for someone experiencing them. They might want to hang out with you all day and then not go out for days. Just remember that it’s not because of something you did or said, it’s just that they are having a hard time dealing with this mental state.
