All You Want To Know About Ram Nath Kovind-The 14th President of India

On July 25th Ram Nath Kovind (71) took oath as the 14th President of India. Here’s All You Want To Know About Ram Nath Kovind.

He is the second Dalit President and the first President born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh. He was a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. He has served as Governor of Bihar from 2015-2017.

This was a short intro of our Honourable President but there’s so much more about him which can be truly inspiring to a lot of people.

Starting from his birth, he was born in Paraukh village of Kanpur Dehat district to a landless Kori family(a Dalit community). His father ran a small shop to support his family of 7 children. His mother died when he was 5 and he walked 8kms to go to school daily. So he has seen it all, born in what’s considered the lowest stratum of the community, lived in poverty and suffered depravity of basics.
I think the hardships that he endured in his early life made him the ‘gentleman’ as called by the media, today. There are numerous examples of his kindness and empathy. Being a lawyer for 16 years he has provided free legal aid to poor and needy. He has also headed Dalit Morcha from 1988 to 2002 and Koli Samaj.

Kovind has also represented India at United Nations General Assembly in 2002.
The list of his good work and achievements is very long but the above mentioned accomplishments do show that he’s a man of great abilities and flair; which is the need of the hour. But there’s a lot to be done by Mr. Kovind in order to prove himself worthy of country’s highest office.

One such impression that he has to negate is being a pawn of Prime Minister Modi and BJP, as he supported demonetization greatly while the former President cautioned the government regarding its consequences on the economy and poor. There has also been a controversy regarding a statement he made against Muslims and Christians stating them to be alien to India, regarding reservation in government jobs to religious minorities.
It’d be an uphill task for the President of India to prove wrong these ongoing notions about him but we wish him all the best in guiding the Nation towards new heights of growth and development.
