I know the GOT fever is at its peak and here I’m talking about Bollywood movies. But guys to be honest once a week 50 min episode doesn’t satiate my desideratum of movies and shows.
I came across some great Bollywood movies while waiting for new weekly episodes of Game of Thrones. Most of them are not blockbusters or joined the 100crore club so they might have missed your eye. Here’s the list of underrated Bollywood movies you should watch right now.
1. Manjhi- The Mountain Man
This 2015 biographical movie starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte and Tigmanshu Dhulia is based on the life of Darshan Manjhi who carved a 360ft long path through a hill using only a ‘hammer’ and ‘chisel’. Already sounds interesting, right?
It also slightly shows the deeply rooted casteism, extreme poverty, India during Indira Gandhi’s period and how innocent people joined Naxalites.
Do watch it, it’s one of my favourite movies and I’m sure it’ll be your favourite too.

This movie starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Irfan Khan was quite popular but it did not get as much appreciation as it should have.
It is based on Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet and a memoir ‘Curfewed Night’ based on Kashmir struggle and civilian disappearances.
It is a beast of a movie, so if you want to watch something unforgettable then go for Haider.
Based on the life of Shahid Bazmi(played by Rajkumar Rao), an Indian lawyer mostly noted for defending the accused of terrorist attacks. Being brutally honest this movie shows the life of Shahid from being arrested at the age of 14 under TADA and serving in jail for 7 years to becoming criminal defence lawyer in Mumbai.
It is a must watch movie and it’ll surely give you chills.
4. Margarita, with a straw
Kalki Koechlin has played the lead role of a teenager suffering from cerebral palsy in this movie.
This movie is about her sexual self-discovery and more. A total must watch for those who love good cinema.
Based on the much popular Double murder case of Arushi Talwar and her servant. This movie shows three contradictory accounts of the case as opposed to just one angle which was popularized by media. It is an honest depiction of effects of office rivalries, flaws in the police investigation procedure of India and the regressive mindset of Uttar Pradesh Police.
So this was my list of truly gripping and worth watching underrated bollywood movies.
